What's with the name?

We get asked that all the time!

In personality temperament theory, orange is the colour that identifies risk takers – those who want to enjoy life, will go against the main stream and think outside the box. And fish, well they never stand still, they are always moving and checking out what is happening around them... you know eat or be eaten. Put them together and that is what Orangefish is all about!

Meet Janet Lewis - Founder & Chief Treasure Hunter

What do you probably want to know about me?

I grew up in the small town of Port McNicoll, ON. As kids we ran around the neighbourhood, were always outside playing and had to be home every night by the time the streetlights came on, otherwise we were in big trouble regardless of the excuse we were trying to sell.  I have an older sister and a younger brother.  They are both amazing in their own ways but one thing they have in common is they are both very protective of the ones they love. So yes, I am the troubled middle child.  My parents are also awesome and everyone in the hood thinks that too.  They are both down to earth, have common sense and always root for the underdog. Throughout my life they have been super supportive, have always let me make my own decisions and my own mistakes. Some lessons I have learned and some I am continuing to learn the hard way.

I am highly motivated and have a lot of discipline. I work out every day during the week and on most weekends you can find me at the beach playing volleyball. Maybe I have a problem or maybe I just love being surrounded by people that like to be active. I have been an athlete my entire life so this lifestyle seems normal to me and I love it. It would actually be weird not to be around sports.

I played Varsity Volleyball at McMaster University, and for a large part of my life played competitive beach volleyball. Even today, when I am not running Orangefish, or doing freelance consulting I switch gears and head to the beach.  Working out and playing beach volleyball is a calming focusing experience. It allows me to be in the moment but at the same time it opens my mind up to more possibilities. I am really able to find creative solutions when I am not at my desk, and instead am being active.

I have always had a “get it done” attitude and have always worked hard to always be the best at whatever I am doing. I am either in or out – there is no grey, wishy-washy area. I am confident and some people might describe me as intimidating. I like to think I am super friendly but I know my confident attitude sometimes sends the wrong message.

I always love hearing what people think when they first meet me, and then also hearing their story and finding out what motivates them. People seem to share information with me, even when they have just met me. It can be weird and awkward at times but also really fascinating. People are so interesting. Everyone has a story to tell, and I do love good stories.

I have an infectious laugh that people either love or hate, it is usually how my friends find me in a crowed place and I cannot lie, neighbours have written notes about my laugh being too loud late at night. So yes, I also like to have fun! Isn’t that what life should be about.

These are 5 things I truly believe you need to keep in mind if you want to be successful.

Be Passionate - Love what you do and let it show!

Be Positive – Think good thoughts, put out good energy and it will all come back to you!

Be Genuine – Be real, be who you are, say what you mean, and mean what you say!

Be Memorable - Leave others with a lasting impression or experience they will remember!

Be Amazing – Work hard and always do your best to delight or surprise people!

I love Orangefish, and I love this life. I like being able to find great new products or people, and I love sharing information about things I am super passionate about. In the last year, we have moved away from the idea of “gifting” and moved towards “sporting” and/or “athletic” events. I feel like this is my home. This is where I should be, in this moment. I should be sharing my passion for being active and living a pretty healthy lifestyle, and if I can help to motivate just one person that is all I can ask for.

So get out there people, find something you love and just move!

For the 2015/16 yeaer we have partnered with Bent Not Broken

This is a BMX racing Team that is trying to bring some of the ol' school flare back to the sport. They have a roster of approx 15 riders who compete at the Provincial and National levels. For more info.

Janet’s 2 Thoughts – BMX? How did this occur? Well a good friend and great Orangefish customer happens to be on the team. We like to show support back to those who also support us so when approached with this opportunity it seemed like a good fit. We are always excited to see how the racers are placing and are proud to sponsor this fun, but hard working team .
